I am wondering if anyone has had any contempo experience getting a motorcar bumper rechromed here in the Midwest and approximately how much information technology toll. I have tried to observe a reasonably priced rechromer here in Indiana but so far I have been quoted a lot more to rechrome than to purchase a reproduction bumper for the 1960's car.

It was about $300 to rechrome a full size pickup bumper. This was near a decade ago. Looks like new and much amend than overseas crap. What sold me to this particular guy was simply i thing...he advertised his shop by showing a chromed brick out front!

It sounds like you found yourself a good chrome shop.

My machine bumper is virtually 5 ft broad and around 4 to 5 inches tall. It likewise needs some straightening.

I would pay $250, tops $300.

I can tell you lot I recently had the two bumpers, and a bunch of other parts, rechromed, and the total cost was a lot more than the car price new. This early 50'southward GM car sold for around $2500 when new. I have twice that much in the chrome piece of work I did.
If y'all are restoring a car and have to ask prices, yous tin't afford to restore a auto. Everything is crazy expensive.

Grab yourself a copy of Hemmings Motor News, at that place are several plating shops advertising in at that place. Graves in Alabama tends to exist the most reasonable. They did a rear bumper for a 68 GTO for me, the finish was not really upward to factory standards...looked OK from 10 feet abroad just that was about information technology.

Doing proper chrome work or any kind of body work is labor-intensive, and it's craftsman labor, yous can't but rent an alky from the local mission and have him doing adept polishing work by noon. Lot of chemical stuff going on in the chrome tank, and if you lot don't start with a copper plating, then go over that with nickel, so finally put the chromium on like a articulate coat, it won't be right.

Everything has GOTTEN crazy expensive. Heck in the final 15 years it's been open up flavor on car restorers and hot rodders. Used to be you could become this stuff done for a reasonable dollar amount and you lot wouldn't have to inquire what it price...because it was mostly affordable. At present everything has gotten rediculusly expensive.

Mayhap I shouldn't enquire the price before bringing my old rusty bumpers into a shop and maxim "Give them the works!!!! Make them super street course. Become extra heavy on the chrome also because I don't want to practice this again for another 40 years."

I was going to get my bumpers rechromed, in my enquiry it was much cheaper if I removed the old chrome. Plainly information technology is more chancy removing than rechroming. Also the disposal is hazardous waste.

Yous may want to wait at powder coating. They accept a nice chrome pulverization that looks real nice.
